I'm sure we can all agree that the Voat shutdown sucks. I've been to a few other sites now and then, and always came back here; I'm sure I'm not the only one with a similar story. The UI is familiar and easy on the eyes, and the downtime was never really awful to the point of putting me off of coming back here.
I want to thank @puttitout for his work in keeping this site up. I don't know what hell he's gone through with all of this, but I absolutely cannot thank him enough. If you get the urge to do so, let him know how much this place meant to you - your words will be saved at searchvoat.co as a memorial to him and his work on this site. I plan to do so, myself.
Now to the meat of the post:
The following links are all valid OPTIONS for our forum needs. Whatever the case, BOOKMARK them, save them to a text file, go to them so you have them in your browser history, or do whatever you need to do in order to be able to check them quickly should one or more OTHER sites go down at a time.
Another thing to remember is this: The CONTENT and the speed at which your feed updates will probably be similar to what it is here because the same people posting are likely to move with us; so if your gripe with previous forays into other sites is how slow the feed is, understand WE ARE THE FEED. (Unintentional pizzagate double-entendre)
Before you join any site below, make sure you have a throwaway email. I recommend mail.protonmail.com - not because of the security, but because it's fast and easy and at this point we either win and netsec (almost) doesn't matter, or we lose and netsec doesn't matter at all, but that's just me.(I still don't use my real name on any of them, of course) If y'all have recommendations for better/easier throwaway emails, let me know.
https://poal.co/s/QStorm/new has long been our backup in case Voat suddenly went down. The site is stable, but there are reports that the admins are more hands-on and quick with admin-actions that some here very much dislike. The site is not as easy on the eyes, but if you can get used to it, the functionality is there to do more than you could here on Voat.
https://ruqqus.com/+QStorm is a more recent backup, made a month ago. The site isn't too awful on the eyes, and seems very responsive. I'm still not super familiar with the layout; very very different in some aspects. Aggravatingly so, but only different and something to get used to, not worse.
The two above are directly under my username on each site. The following I have zero control over currently:

I think this should be our overall base of operations for the moment. There's a lot of things to consider for a FORUM move that is less necessary with a service like Discord.
Real-time text chat with everyone. Can post links and even voice chat if you're of the mind. Easy to be able to migrate to and from. Can real-time message and help others get set up and settled in to the sites above that you are already familiar with.

A purposely broken link is just what you would put in the address bar with a space in it. Remove the space.
Create a new email address at protonmail and use that so it doesn't link to your personal email address. Don't give any of them your real information. Make something up, write it down on a notepad.

I, too, was a Reddit refugee and came here. Felt my breath taken away when I read Voat was going down! With all the fake news it is life blood to find a place that tracks Truth. I have been mostly lurking, commenting from time to time, and drawing information in a more efficient way, multiple times daily, than I would have time to check otherwise. Neon Revolts Great Awakening group on Gab has 52k+ members groups/2043. Not for everyone though as he can get a bit testy if newbs don't abide by the rules. (won't let me input urls so just stick gab url in front)

Gab + Dissenter is still a good combo for seeing actual news and avoiding any ramifications for posting honest replies. LBRY / odysee.com is excellent alternative to YouTube; lots of banned creators are moving over there now.
It's sad to hear about Voat going away but we will not be silenced!

Discord does not like people to organize, the Marfoogle Discord had groups in all 50 states and they shut them down with no warning. Also, their TOS states they are a gaming platform and can and probably will shut you down at the first threat from the DS.
I think the criteria should be Free Speech and where the host IS, like Iceland is good.

The greatawakening.win seems like an interesting alternative, but I dont know about mods there and how open they are truly to free speech, nor who owns the site.
About poal ... meh - it really looks "gay" like some point out, lol. With all the snowflakes and shit, looks totally gay, and even hard on eyes.
I would say, anything with bigger censorship doesnt even come into consideration to be there, at least from my POV.
Discord is really not a good site ( Im actually there in some groups and know how some things go so far... ) regarding free speech, its just yet another typical "mainstream" platform, altough I would say less exposed than for example, Youtube or FB or Twitter ... however, if the server attracts the attention of ((( some people ))) and Discord admins are contacted by those assholes, there could always be problems. Its overall a good "transitional point" or informative hub for many. The fast flow of information there is very good.
Overall, I think Ill go with greatawakening.win , potentially. But will wait to see whats going to occur with VOAT, as all this smells very weird to me ...

I don't know if this will help but what about mastodon? You can build your own community called instances, that you administrator, make the guidelines. It's open source. Kind of the same type of set-up like twitter. You would need a throw away email like you suggested.

Yea, Thanks for the links. I have joined a few of them. This feels like when reddit did their about-face. I tell ya, I was lost for a few months with no idea of where to go. Then by the time I found voat the signups were disabled. hahaha good times. Well they finally opened them up again and I was able to join. It's a real shame this site is going down... I really liked it.
Hopefully one or all of the other ones will turn out to be just as good.

I have some Andy if Mayberry DVDs stashed in a box that I watch sometimes.
I remember more about my early days than I used to as I get older and think back on them. I can draw up a lot of things from as far back as when I was 3 or 4 years old that I had totally forgotten about. Kinda saddens me though in the end when I compare it to now. I get up to the mid-80s when I was in my 20s and then it all goes to shit after that. It was the onset of globalization that ruined it. That's very clear to me.

Well, the nice thing about memories is that you can choose the ones that bring you joy and comfort. Write the crappy ones down and then destroy them...banish them forever! It is amazing the older we get how much we like to spend time in our childhood. I come from a very dysfunctional family so it is surprising that the good memories are more prominent. The simplicity of life was so wonderful. Even the kids today are stressed to the max.

Some things I've learned from experience and research....
Memories become more engrained in your brain the more you fire up the associated neural pathways by thinking about them.
Writing memories down makes you draw up those old memories and establish them more strongly in your mind. Burning what you wrote afterwards is just a ritual. It doesn't make them go away. It just offers a sense of release.
It's better to just recognize when the memories are bad ones and turn your mind to something else instead.
Good memories are usually more prominent because you tend to think about those moments more often.
Sorry. I can't help myself. I'm very interested in how the mind works and did a lot of research on it over the years.
