I just finished reading Philemon in my study Bible. The study notes reminded that Paul sent greetings to/from those who hosted the early Christian church in their homes, like Philemon. And this made me think of my Mom, "the hostess with this mostest".
My Mom was a homemaker. She influenced me greatly. She hosted church prayer meetings in our home, and joked that she was "the hostess with the mostest".
She influenced me greatly. She taught skills like cooking and cleaning and caring for others. She served Dad and US breakfast, lunch and dinner. She helped us be ready. She lived her values as a Christian. She was a HOMEmaker.
As the American family disintegrates, as the call goes out for workers to work, as houses and apartments and huts are no longer homes, I feel compelled to give a shout out to the homemakers.
So, in memory of my Mom, I shout
HOMEMAKERS ARE IMPORTANT!

My mom was a homemaker, until she worked full time after my dad died at 45. I was 12, but the foundation she established was important. We lived Christian principles but after dad was gone, we had a hard time finding a church home. However, my “career”
has included working in churches/church organizations for 30 years. Mom steeled herself from the pariahs in the business world when she continued to run our family business after dad died. She was a wonderful homemaker, and continued to make sure that my brother and I always had breakfast, lunch, dinner(together) and any thing we did at school, she was there. Friends teased me later on about how she was always at school for us, but I believe some of it was admiration. I don’t know now how she did all she did.
