One of the parts of obamacare was to enable hospitals throughout the country to pull up a person's medical record no matter where they were. Hospitals were given huge chunks of money to implement or upgrade their electronic medical record (EMR) to make this possible. I can't confirm if they are linked up yet.

I don't know anything about this story but if there is such access virtually any hospital employee in the link could alter medical records. They sold this technology as a great thing for patients since their medical records could be accessed at any point of care, but now I see there is a dark side to it.

There's always a nefarious purpose, it seems. I've come to believe that even cash for clunkers had a dual purpose of getting rid of cars that can't be tracked.

I haven't trusted charities for years. Now it's so bad I don't know if I can even trust the Red Cross - are they really using my blood to save people or are they pretending it's "young" blood and infusing it into people. Good point about the cars, I didn't think of that.

The Red Cross org is the WORST. Just look up their involvment with the Haiti scam after the earthquake. Your point about other possible uses for our blood collection is not something I considered before but at this point wouldn't be surprised...
