but for real though, this is actually worrying for many reasons.
the reason that gets me is that just about anything can be argued by someone who knows what they are talking about. If I knew a lot about something, I could make a reasonable person believe that thing if I were able to argue it well, regardless of the factual nature of it.
If I put enough time into it, I could argue that the sky is actually green. using enough scientific sources I could manipulate them to make it fit my narrative. I could say that to an outside observer that is not limited to the human visual spectrum that the sky is green or red or rainbow colourd. and it would be total bollocks but given enough information and logical pathways people would believe it, even if the person I was arguing with didnt.
apply this to everything and now you have people shilling for this and that who appear to be reasonable people simply speaking their mind. and as far as I know theres no way to truly tell if its a person being paid to say it, a person corrupted by propaganda, an idiot, or a person who has come to the same conclusions indirectly through propaganda. but then how do we know what is and is not propoganda? theres no objective source to say what is in sync with reality and what is a falsity.
this makes critical thinking so important in modern life. it doesnt matter what you believe so long as you can back up your thoughts with accurate real information. but then again, how can you know that information is accurate? some of it you can safely assume is factual like basic sciences and such, but when you get to more abstract ideas theres no way to truly know if you are basing your beliefs on reality or not. and this is what they want. they want people to not be able to truly tell what is real facts and what is not. when people have proper information they are able to become powerful. when the people are divided amongst themselves they are easy to conquer.
look at the division of politics. the left is hung up on absolutely meaningless issues that are so unimportant but think that by fighting for it they are making progress. the right is hung up on trying to solve the problem the left has created. no one is able to actually progress the human race because everyone is fighting each other. and thats exactly what they wanted to happen.
I encounter this while debating NAFTA all the time...Quite a few people defend it fairly well actually. But if you just keep going down the logical line its comes to an end. Its why I always fight to the conclusion so anyone happening by see's these people for the shills they are.
It always ends with me saying "Yes NAFTA increases growth...but only for the top tier. Jobs vanish, wages fall, or at least stagnate for everyone else. Furthermore, you cant continue to argue it keeps goods cheap. Take on look at Tyson chicken and their use of contract farming in central and south america to realize the monopolies NAFTA created. It allows for price fixing not price drops."
Thats when they usually stop responding...All of their BS arguments have been exhausted and they move one.
And before all this of course is the standard...WE destablized Central and South america with NAFTA and the drug war so immigrants would flood to the U.S. so corporations, lawn care business, Construction businesses, Restaurants could use them for cheap labor. Its been done time and time again...Republicans destabilize a country and democrats cry we must save those poor wretches...and it always end with corporations bottom lines getting a lot greener.
