I've read a few articles, and anecdotal posts online, that people have noticed a correlation between their speech and ads they are shown. As far as I know, this is a proven thing in cellphones. I've noticed eerie coincidences lately like that, and living with someone who has a galaxy s6 (and is getting an s7, so the always have the new phones) and someone who has an iPhone 6s...I am more scared now.

This is what frustrates me about us.
We created this amazing piece of unfiltered information sharing technology that allowed us to hear and discuss ideas from around the world. Sometimes we had to deal with ideas that were crazy and bigoted, beyond intelligent or just downright bizarre, but at least it was more or less uncensored and open.
Now instead of using that input from every individual to collate, analyse and store the more intelligent innovations, observations and social comments for the benefit of all humankind we've simply gone and created a way to exploit individuals for a monetary gain.
Yay us!

What did you think was going to happen?? The thing that voat has really open my eyes up too is there's no such thing as a free lunch, EVERYTHING has it's price. More often than not that free lunch tends to be some so called form convenience/security and the price, obviously is freedoms/rights.
Don't get me wrong I agree with what your saying in theory, but if there's money to be made, morality goes out the window pretty quick in the face of the all mighty dollar.
