The attack wasn't to discredit him, his now fired IL campaign manager picked an urban college campus with a large minority population as a "perfect" location for a Trump rally. Really? I would call it pulling a Homer. Sometimes you do this strategically like when the KKK insisted on marching through a Jewish neighborhood in New Jersey, were denied a permit, and won a suit to allow them to march. Feel their power. Other times, you might be able to spin it into playing a "victim". His surrogates have to run around like chickens with their heads cut off and blame everyone else for the violence. Trump even is trying to play tit-for-tat when he blames Bernie for the violence. This might be of some small rev for the base, but none of this makes Trump look presidential to the largest pool of voters, the independents.
