Ok... "The Donald" marks the first time that someone who has spent time in the WWE stables has run for president. Truth be told, I love rasslin'. The scripted conflicts... the pretend violence... it's just like elections and limited hangouts. Given this similarity, I'm surprised we haven't had a shot at President Comacho before. I will concede though: Linda McMahon -- the wife of WWE CEO Vince McMahon, a woman who was kayfabe "drugged into a comatose state by her philandering husband" -- has run for Senator from Connecticut twice. She ran as a republican, which seems fitting, given the Republican penchant to use gay escapades as blackmail fodder. (I'm champing at the bit for "The Donald" to bellow: Come *meat* me in the ring, Foamio.) The other instance of political kayfabe is Jesse Ventura, which has extended into his (terrible) "Conspiracy Theory" show. (The same one which included interior shots of "secret" compounds.)
Rasslin' is a ... demi-legal entity. I love it, but it's a weird and shady business that trades in conspiracy. The association with politics is unsurprising, but... oddly unusual. Has anyone put together any analyses of the intersection of wrestling and politics? Does anyone know any other overlaps?
