Those were common themes of writing at that time from conservative writers. George Orwell and Henry Hazlitt both wrote fictions parsing the topic of a strong man or party savior. They had just come out of WWII and saw the rise of communism, nazism, and fascism and society was simply asking itself what the hell happened. How do we avoid this mess again? People caught onto the idea that if someone starts selling you solutions you'd better kick them to the curb. All you need is a country with some basic principles, mostly those defining what a country won't do, and that as long as you stick to those principles the place will run.
