Also UK here, I've been collecting my own water for nearly six years. Got 8 towers with turners and filtration. Use it on a couple of farms nearby and for my own use, cost covered by the farmers. Only issue I have is heating it up with boilers for cleaning is a pain in the ass but I don't want to pay the costs to set up a proper system for now. Had the local water authority come by when I first set it up but all they did was test it a little and complain about the piping but after I showed them the 4 towers I had then they seemed happy enough with the set up to leave without much more fuss. Haven't had any legal trouble or anything.
If you buy bottled water you are not only throwing your money away, you are giving money to people who sign off on the poorest people in the world being abused and exploited.
