The recent power ball scandal, and the upcoming 1.3 billion dollar draw got me thinking...
Assuming the power ball lottery isn't fixed - one random person will inherit 1.3 billion dollars. It's easy to get caught up in the moment of thinking about what you personally would do with the money. You discuss it with your friends, with your colleagues - they all have their own fantasy. Usually they're all the same - if you have a shitty job, your colleagues will tell you how they can't wait to escape everyday life. Buy an island...maybe a boat...pay off some debts, purchase a mansion....live the dream. Sure. That's probably how some of you picture it.
But what if some totally bat-shit crazy psychopath won? Oh, the carnage that could be caused following a 1.3B dollar shopping spree. The terrorist organizations some of those funds could be transferred to. So many possibilities.
To be honest - I don't think the average American citizen could handle that amount of wealth. And what's kind of scary, is that the only requirement for purchasing that lottery ticket is age. Let's face it - there are probably certain people, that probably shouldn't win that sort of capital. You're probably thinking about someone you know now who you wouldn't trust with it.
Consider it. If you were a lottery organization - handing out massive sums of cash...it would be devastating if that individual had ties to organized crime...terrorist organizations, or similar. I'm starting to think the lottery must be rigged. Each winner possibly vetted in advance as 'low-risk'. Who would be responsible for that? What's involved in that process? How do they narrow it down to that individual? How have they kept all of this secret?
It's an open ended question - you can draw your own conclusion. It just seems...fucking crazy...that anyone can win 1.3B dollars without any sort of vetting. It's rigged? ..no? maybe?

It's rigged.

Right!? And they're selling something like a million tickets per hour today.

Even if you take away the fact that it's very likely to be rigged, the very concept of it sickens me. The lower class of America spends the highest percentage of their earnings on lottery tickets hoping for a better life. It's a deliberate tool to keep the poor dirt poor and feels very post-dystopian. When you're more likely to die going to buy a ticket for a contest than win the contest, the logical thing to do is realize it's just pure foolishness to enter said contest.

Should be illegal if gubment actually was for the people. Like predatory lending/credit, ridiculous overdraft fees only crushing the poor. All regressive taxation forms, legal & promoted.
