Oh wow, I even rechecked it before replying to you.

peacegnome ago

where?

pepepepepe ago

I hate it when people put words in a dead man's mouth, regardless of whether I agree with them or not.

3dk ago

I've been looking for something like this. Thanks.

CowWithBeef ago

Don't assume he would support the current reddit. In fact he would likely vocally oppose it in its current form. He got out before most of us ever even used the site.

mamwad ago

Let's be honest. He would have followed us here and then been denigrated for being a leftist Jew.

BrooklynZOGHQ ago

Aaron was a mentsch, shut your fingers. Aaron could have single handedly cured anti-semetism since he had all the intelligence of the most heighty jews yet he strove to destroy everything they have built. Even though he could have easily turned around and said fuck it all in return for an extremely comfortable life, he didn't.

This was the leader we needed and if you ever wonder what would happen if somebody tries to change the system and it looks like he might actually be able to pull it off and isn't just some political hack, you're a dead man.

This is your proof, this is Aaron's legacy. Sobering.

Aaron Swartz was a symbol to me that the youth of today weren't all narcissistic instagram whores that I feared them to be, and that young people still have the capacity for bravery, integrity and genius.

The people that killed him (undoubtedly of my own generation) can go fuck themselves.

Chiefpacman ago

My sarcasm was wasted on you

peacegnome ago

he would have been for an alternative to reddit that sprung up due to censorship issues. It is just like how i can say that the eff would support what voat is doing in light of reddit's actions.

ThizzBoss ago

It was only 3 years ago?

I'm not saying that in the "LOL TIME FLIES!! AMIRITE" sense. I'm saying that in the sense that I really wasn't aware of this until reading about it on /r/conspiracy. I always figured it happened back when I was on digg or when I was new to reddit and didn't care about politics ~2010

Question_Authority ago

If you really want to see how bad its gotten on Reddit. Look at some of the posts in the Aaron death post on the front page..

Chiefpacman ago

Well fire up your crystal ball and let me have a look at the future!

otherwise I'll make my assumptions of what's to come based on what I know now.

Chiefpacman ago

Isn't also disgraceful, by your standards, to assume he wouldn't have done it?

Chiefpacman ago

You're just wrong. Your lying to yourself, or you just weren't around then.

Digg and reddit never, ever, had the kind of priority on freedom as we do.

But why argue with you, when I could ask, why are you on voat? You seem to appreciate reddit.

BrooklynZOGHQ ago

pacman you sound like your 8 years old and somebody just insulted your favourite teddy bear. Shut the fuck up you dumb cunt. This place will devolve into a shithole eventually as well, it's a mathematical certainty once a critical mass of users is reached and the place is flooded with downies.

OMGERD VOAT WILL NEVER SELL OUT, IT HAS A GOAT FOR AN ICON, A GOAT111!

Chiefpacman ago

Glad I could upset you so much 😛

Maybe I would care about your opinion if you wern't one of the crazy jew spammers?

BrooklynZOGHQ ago

Maybe I would care about your opinion if you weren't one of insert stupid label here

I can do that one too, it's really easy and doesn't require much thought. Better luck next time though. You're one of those divs who has to have the last word by the looks of it.

Chiefpacman ago

Last word

dontwatchtv ago

Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of reddit, was working behind the scenes with the FBI and NSA. Alexis is all about monetizing Reddit and wouldn't surprise me if he helped get Aaron Swartz out of the way.

peacegnome ago

You can tell just by the how shitty spez talks about aaron that he did most likely had a lot to do with the demise of aaron.

go1dfish ago

I think they resented Aaron for getting out before things turned to shit. Aaron basically got himself fired after Conde Nast took over.

He saw the writing on the wall.

Chiefpacman ago

Who says Reddit was a bastion of free speech? One of the founders in a magazine interview?

Reddit was made to make money.

Voat was made, to my knowledge, as an economics experiment for a college kid. Voat owes it's success to ppl looking for internet freedom.

Surely your noticing some key differences here?

peacegnome ago

He would absolutely be working on something decentralized, but there isn't anything like that yet, and voat doesn't censor, even if the ability is there to be abused. I don't think that swartz would have been against jstor if they would have let people access the information without being associated with a college who pays them.

peacegnome ago

He would not be comfortable with anything that is going on at reddit, and wants information to be unencumbered which is currently voat.

go1dfish ago

As he would say: Bits are not a bug

notabug was the original parent company of Reddit that was bought by Conde Nast.

peacegnome ago

If anyone hasn't seen the documentary about this amazing human please watch it: The Internet's Own Boy.

TheMemeTeam ago

On a side note I wonder if legitimate voat users downvoat harmless things like that or pissed off SJWs from leddit

CowWithBeef ago

This put me in tears. Amazing story.

Konran ago

The guy is a legend for me. A truly inspirational individual. The possibility he was 'suicided' feeds the theory that certain others began to think he was perhaps becoming a little too inspirational.

go1dfish ago

This just got released a few days ago: http://thenewpress.com/books/boy-who-could-change-world

Sciency ago

He had major political aspirations. He would have had some serious support too.
