I was just thinking today about how our military behaves more like police should than how a military should, and vice-versa, but what if they are using places like Afghanistan as ways to test how well military rule could be exercised in this country? Afghanistan is, like America, pretty well armed (for well known reasons). It is also full of many places for Enemies to hide, and has a populace which is relatively sympathetic to the Enemy. With all these precision killings, with drone strikes and special ops teams, this war isn't really how you fight when you want to destroy a nation, but how you fight when you want to really control a populace. This idea has probably been thought of before and said better, but I haven't heard it and I'd like to hear a discussion on it.

As all large landmass continent spanning countries have an ever increasing migration to major cities, the ability to monitor and apply further controls on physical freedoms is ever evolving.
I foresee neighborhoods monitored via botnet style mass mini-drones that can easily be controlled and monitored from whatever location they deem to house the staff required to operate. Its obvious these can be mass produced with existing technology levels of programming in the open market, why wouldn't the government already be testing and researching the deployment of such a system.
How easy is it going to be for the government to get the population to willingly ask and thank them for such a system when it is offered in times like these, a population controlled by fear and ignorance.
