Don't really have much supporting evidence for this, but it's something that occurred to me while watching how strongly Trump has taken up the fight against gun control in the political arena. It's like he was losing momentum over the past few months with middle America, taking lots of heat for comments about Mexicans/etc, and this is the new issue that's going to hit home with millions of average voters. The timing could possibly be entirely coincidental, but if so it's hard to measure how lucky Trump is that this issue has gotten so much attention from the mainstream media during his campaign. It's almost as if this issue was perfectly designed from the ground up to be something that only Trump would or could advocate for. Now we have this climate where anytime gun control is mentioned publicly in the media you also have to talk about Trump and his plans for it, because they are so radically different from what other candidates have said they intend to do.
Would love to hear others thought's on the likelihood of this kind of thing as a possibility. Please fill in the gaps if you see any piece of this puzzle I missed heh.

Middle America has been Trump's strongest support since the beginning, and has doubled his percentage from 20 to 40 in the last like three months, he hasn't been stalling, let alone losing momentum.
The logic behind an extremely unpopular attempted gun ban this close to elections is certainly questionable though, it could either be a hail mary attempt because they believe a leftist victory is unlikely or a final fuck you to Hillary from Obama, given their rumored animosity. I don't think Trump controlling the POTUS is likely though, especially considering his proposed policies damage the global elite.
