Yes, but it's also like walking down the street swathed from head to foot in black. Any cop driving by is going to check you out.

And of course, if you run an exit node, god knows what is flowing through your IP address.

implying tor is safe.

Blind and naked.

Naked, because everything they are and do is entirely visible. Blind, because they do not realise that they are visible, and cannot see anyone else.

I won't say that Tor is untrustworthy, but I will say that you shouldn't use it as your only layer of protection. Using Tor in combination with a VPN, using VMs and full disk encryption, and logging in from a location that is not your home will put you on the right track to actual privacy. That's on top of not running any javascript, using free software, on a machine that can and does run libreboot.

Tor by itself doesn't fulfill all of a user's privacy needs, and that's just a conservative assessment. If you wanna be super paranoid, even Tor can't be trusted. You'd be better running it than not running it, but I wouldn't put all of my faith in it.

If we're talking true privacy, you've got to consider real world security as well. Phones (obviously), traffic/security cameras, home security systems, modern cars, TVs, and even your router are all massive real-space security holes.

So... you've basically got to be a real government operative to attain internet anonymity. I miss the early 90's..

Run Tails OS if you need anything through Tor. I honestly don't trust Tor at all, there are too many rouge nodes out there, but realistically what else is there? Any other onion network have the same limitations.

MungFuSensei ago

That's why I say don't use it as your only privacy layer. Multiple methods at once greatly increase your ability to stay hidden. Use any one thing at a time, and you are limited by the vulnerabilities of that thing. Use multiple avenues, and you can counteract those vulnerabilities.

Snowden is controlled opposition and the final piece getting the Panopticon into place.

Snowden is controlled opposition

always kinda thought this way too, do you have more information on this for me to read more about?

FacelessOne ago

Amazing how so many still think Tor is some amazing way to browse with anonymity.

Using Tor is basically tossing up a red flag to have all of your traffic captured.

https://pando.com/2014/07/16/tor-spooks/

Snowden promoting its use is the reinforcing sign.

Wolfspider ago

The word panopticon buts a bit of a different perspective on things for me. Good one!

Snowden is controlled opposition

Finally. Someone's taken off the tinfoil. I'd give you 100 upgoats if I could.

ElspethTirel ago

I'd rather have zero and not need to tell people the truth.

You definitely arent alone man. Ive personally believed he's controlled op since before voat even started. Trying to talk about it on the shilled /r/conspiracy will only get you berated and downvoted. Thankfully we can actually discuss here on voat.

Gerplunckamo ago

I've got a question. For all the people that think he's really on our side.

If he's such a hero, why isn't he here?

jerry ago

Because apparently the spooooOOOOOky government will "arrest" him. Right. Like the NSA doesnt know where this guy is already
