I had always assumed it was a "real" thing. Right after the paris event it seemed really strange that anon had gathered and deleted the twitter accounts of hundreds of isis users. Its not like there is some anon guild or something thats going to say hey thats not us. It also seems like they kind of pop and dont really do anything useful like taking down big corps or anything.

Anytime anonymous is mentioned, check for symbols and phrases that anon has used but haven't yet been used in the mass media. If none are present it's likely a three letter agency or a group of moralfags.

The group that calls itself Anonymous and engages in itself in hacktivism have been moralfags since the start.
They are completely unrelated to true Anonymous, because they are too busy laughing at the idiot they got to make mustard gas in his kitchen by telling him it was a way to make pretty crystals or persuading some moron to detonate a hand grenade in his own toilet to worry about Scientology or some other non lulzy moral cause.
