The only issue I have is some people who read it are waiting for that exact scenario before they get worried. In the real world elites have learned to be much more subtle about their control. In 1984 the people are broken, and do exactly as they are told. In our world, the people are manipulated through psychological methods to say, act and even vote how the elites want all while leaving the illusion of self determination.
