There is a default list that populates at the top, but you are not subscribed to them. On Reddit, you start by being subscribed to the defaults and have to manually unsub each of them. Plus, once you start subing, you can have the top bar set to your subs. I believe they will improve it over time. Any suggestions and improvements, hit /v/ideasforvoat, see if it your idea has been already submitted, and if not submit your idea.
