As far as Ive found out this star is too old to have that kind of loose material all over the place. If its actually asteroids then something must have caused them to appear at some point in the (cosmically speaking) not so far past, so even if its not made by intelligent life, it would still be interesting to find out what kind of phenomenon has caused this "swarm".
