No we don't and our electrical grid is not insulated. I have my wiremans license, albeit not a full journymen I know what kind of electrical goes into buildings in north america and they are not shielded against a carignton type event.

Using those maxwells equations along with simple material engineering calculations, you can easily find the thickness of metal you'll need. Of course those boxs themselves are not just any metal, they're probably aluminum which is cheap and has fantastic electrical conduction. So of course these boxs dont have to be that thick to absorb a short low level gamma burst.

We see solar storms all the time. You would know if you ever had to voltage adjustments on pipeline's polarities. During a solar storm a pipeline absorbs a bunch of power from the waves, and I have to calculate what to adjust our rectifiers to, so that the pipe doesnt corrode.
Now guess what? my gear still works. your gear works. Our shit isn't getting fired up. This is because we adjust the power going through the lines from fail safes and lowering power output, and your gear is in a metal box. You as an electrician wouldn't know of this. All you do is install shit, so dont act like you know anything. Im the guy who puts this stuff on paper. Every IC I design goes inside a metal case. Otherwise even a small solar flare well melt all the thin cables in the IC.
