We get so offended when the subject is broached but we great humans are no different than any other animal. Period. Desirable traits can be enhanced through mating in a complementary manner just as can undesirable traits. Or be eliminated. It's Gregor Mendel 101. It's a shame we can't find some way to leverage that without going full Adolf and/or getting all butthurt.

How about we educate the poor and the stupid?

Nothing wrong with educating the ignorant. We certainly should. But "stupid" by definition is restricted in capability to learn and stupidity is but one of the traits resulting from a particular genetic combination. If there's any benevolent path to improving our race as a whole it would be through the mating of the stupid with the gifted, raising the intelligence of the offspring over time, and discouraging the mating of the stupid with the stupid. Poverty results from many factors but lack of educability is certainly one. By improving our ability to learn and be educated we'd go some way toward addressing poverty as well. It's a double-edged sword and dangerous path though. Many pure-bred animals are more susceptible to particular diseases than corresponding mutts and mongrels, so, moral and ethical quandaries aside, we probably don't want formal eugenics programs in effect. Personally, I think it could be addressed naturally by teaching our kids to admire better role models for a start -- scientists and engineers and astronauts rather than faux-celebrity whores like the Kardashians and thug rappers and NFL players. As a society we are rotting and crippling political correctness is to blame in large part.
