The US has turned into an interventionist. That's terrible for the world and for the US as well. I even think is much worse for the US citizens since they are the ones footing the bill. They don't have basic first world services like health care but they have drones all over the world. That's a hefty price to pay from the point of view of their citizens. What's in it for them?

We fund the security for the entire world but don't even get the most basic government function back in return, borders.
