not to mention there was no slide movement in the VA footage. That's not how a gun works people...

Movie props guns have to eject the blank casings as well.
At nearly point-blank range, I expected they'd use propane for the muzzle flash and a kinetic slide to simulate recoil.
What the hell is a "kinetic slide?"
A lot of fake guns have a weight in the slide which gets jerked backwards when the trigger is pulled. It's weaker and not quite the same as recoil, but close enough for things like arcade shooters or movie props.
