I understand that in a perfect world "journalists" should not be stretching the truth, but why the big deal now? Why is this happening a dozen years after the fact? Especially since people were calling the story out as BS right when he first started telling the tale all those years ago. I get a sneaking suspicion that there is some kind of new nefarious path that the powers that be who control the media want to tread down or steer everyone towards that perhaps Williams wasn't willing to toe the line on. As in, perhaps the guy may have had a sudden crisis of conscience or something, and this is the little bit of "incentive" they were dangling in front of him for 12 years to make him a team player. Hell, I just assume the news is lying to me. I figured others did as well. So why are they making a stink about it now?

I'm not taking sides but I can see where you're coming from. It felt a bit like a hit piece on him.
There's no consistency with what is a 'career-ending' moment. Richard Quest was caught doing weird shit in Central Park with meth in his pocket - on a bad day that would be the end, but he's still on the air. I'm not saying whether or not he should go, just pointing out there there are double standards all over the place.
Most of the time, people in showbiz get fired when it's convenient, not when something bad happens.
