Can't it be a bit of both. I mean, the pull of each factor is subjective, but wouldn't a mentally unstable person who is also affected socio-economic problems be more likely to commit mass-murder than somebody who isn't?
Well yes, clearly not everyone subjected to these conditions will snap violently. It takes the right combination of factors. If you're interested, read "Going Postal," it will open your eyes big time. You've never seen this explored in this way.
