Propaganda is the most effective method of control over others ever conceived. The twentieth century saw it really come in to its own with mass communications (radio, tv, widespread newspaper distribution, etc).
You used to fear your king/rulers because they could order you thrown into a dungeon or executed on a whim. Nukes are just that fear put into the abstract so the men who are lording over you wind up looking like your protectors. Then it's the Russians or the Chinese or the Terrorists or the <insert boogeyman here> that are trying to enslave us, not our own oligarchs/corporations/government. I'm old enough to remember nuclear drills and hiding under a school desk to ostensibly save myself from dying in a nuclear explosion. Lol,that's the power of propaganda.
These are good starting points to understand why some folks no longer buy the nuclear chain reaction explosion story.
Galen Windsor is no slouch when it comes to nuclear engineering (look up his background). Watch him eat uranium, something he did many times throughout his life with no ill effects.
