Whatever entity is behind this, all I can say for sure is that they have a lot of money, and a fucking LOT of connections/influence. It's in the media, could it be the media? The hard left? The hard right seems less likely, but do love a certain level of PC just as much as the liberals. The only other group I think is intent on keeping free speech to FCC standards would probably be the NSA?

SJWs aren't a collective, it's an umbrella term for a huge spectrum of crybabies, and they infight arguably more than they fight with neurotypical, sane people. So how can such a disorganized and puerile group "accomplish" so much?
My answer, though it's not very conspiratorial is : this stuff grows out of Marxism specifically. When Marxism was pretty decisively thrashed in economics, it turned to culture (see the Frankfurt School for a clear example), with great and still-growing success. Also just the sheer power of Marxism in universities and the degree to which uni graduates populate media and government.
So many people think that Marxism is dead and buried, and they're plain wrong. It's enormously powerful... just not in the field of economics.
The general uptick over years is multifaceted and comes from extensive peacetime and prosperity inside of western countries along with the influence of a pack of international hyenas who want to feast on our fattened carcass.
There is more to it but that's gennerally the genesis of it; do nothing pussy faggots bitch and then our enemies pay them to bitch more or about something specific all for the purposes of subversion, smokescreens and in fighting.
The current abrupt uptick is because the machine is rattling, enough people have seen the bars around their lives now and they are raging to break those bars; donald trump, the swell into far right ideology and the naming of our enemies is causing them and their puppets to enter a new defensive stance where they must repel the things threatening them.
Being an SJW is easier than falling out of bed. All you have to do is find a majority, say they're oppressing you and roll around in the fee fee donations. The only trade off is you have to have zero shame.
To be fair, I'm not sure that it's that easy if you're white, straight, male and able-bodied. It's more a privilege of those who aren't. And the more you aren't, the more that privilege is available to you.
