The whole bombs in the buildings thing was a hard sell to me, even at the conspiracy's height. I always just said it was a CIA plot that went further and faster than they were expecting and instead of catching a bunch of terrorists in the act they instead supported them right up until they were left behind as the terrorists didn't need them anymore and pushed ahead in secret before the handlers knew what happened.
The massive amount of secrecy and fear from the government is almost certainly them not wanting to reveal their series of fuckups that led directly to the attacks, and the help and support of the saudi regime that allowed them to lead the scale of operations that let them support terrorist cells at the scale at which they would be a credible threat to america.
no way to know for sure....either it is what you said or they just decided to kill Americans like they planned on doing when the joints chiefs of staff(Lyman Lemnitzer) approved Operation Northwoods.
Another interesting coincidence that Lyman Lemnitzer was later rehired by the government to work for them some more after JFK was killed. Lyman Lemnitzer worked in the Ford Administration on special projects with people like Cheney, Wolfowitz and Donald Rumsfeld...nice of him to help mentor some younger proteges.
I'm sure he taught them some great lessons on serving the public.
