Asbestos is not the primary reason first responders got cancer. Radiation is.

Maybe it was radiation, maybe it was asbestos, but maybe it's more internal than external.
I very well think this is a case of traumatic shock which can lead to many many different health problems, including cancer.
These people saw and experienced some horrific shit, I can't imagine what that would do to somebody.
