If everyone suddenly decided not to vote, the news would go on as normal (i.e. the numbers wouldn't appear to change at all), and he who was chosen to win before will win. What matters far more is the amount of bribery to each candidate ("donations", i.e. who can pay more to get their favorite sock puppet elected).
Now... go ask this in /v/politics and see how many of them disagree.
