There’s plenty of evidence of multiple magnetic polar flips in history. There’s no evidence of a “fast” one or one which coincided with mass extinctions.
The idea is that the review ed book says about a flip that comes back into it's original position in an extremely short time. The information that I've seen so far says that with modern knowledge we do not have the posibility of detecting the evidence of it occuring. We do have a lot of evidence for global catastrophies.
