A dollar of heroin in Afghanistan goes for $1k+ in the states. The money ends up in the pockets of the elites.
The Taliban shut down opium production. Al-Qaeda and the Taliban aren't interchangeable. In fact the Taliban said that Bin Laden wasn't even in Afghanistan and if the US had proof that he was, he'd be handed over.
