There is a theory that the military, knowing US debt is a huge risk, actually budget to pay it off. It's kept hidden and off the books, but the money owed as "federal debt owed to the public", etc is just being kept safe, out of the economy, in case it's ever needed.

I've seen a pattern in "missing military money" reported in different places and it almost always matches whatever the current debt is at.
one of the widoms of warfare / combat is to make your own true position incredibly difficult for your opponent to assess.
