I'm gonna go ahead and say we would have learned about whole towns disappearing.

I remember this post. In light of the newest situation , I wonder if China is doing the same thing or if cnV was released for this sole purpose.

From 2017. There was talk that Hurricane Andrew in Florida was similar, back in the 90’s, I believe.
A newscaster in TX interviewed a man who was taking shelter under some awnings during Hurricane Harvey, he asked why he was outside the man said it was because the Red Cross and FEMA were killing everyone inside. Video Link.
