I was pondering why we were so easily accepted and then I realized, we assimilated gratefully, we wanted to learn English, the Pragmatism of American unity appealed to us and we embraced the existing systems, instead of trying to redecorate someone else's house.

Her skin is probably dark due to tanning. White people can and do get very dark from tanning. She looks white to me.
