That's an extra service, you have to pay for it. Malaysia air did not opt in.

Cars with OnStar are equipped with remote GPS tracking regardless of whether or not the customer pays for the service, it's still being logged somewhere.

I get the reasoning. But non-paying companies would then skip paying, then when they want the back info, try to pay. It was not installed, irc.

Then we'd have to forget the several GPS tracking devices in the avionics. FAA knows damn well where that plane ended up. How does an aluminum flap "wash up" onto shore? The shit doesn't float.

they'd still install it and use it if the govt wanted to track you with it, they want your money and to track you both, and if can't get the money will at least do the tracking, just won't let you have access to the information if your car is stolen

Can you explain how that works? I'm thinking the car itself is equipped with what amounts to a satellite phone that periodically sends a signal. Otherwise GPS is passive in most cars. Thoughts?
