Yes... There was a thing a while back. Maybe 10 years now? This outfit was trying to make this a primary way of getting an internet connection to compete against DSL/Cable etc. It was a thing then just went away. I have no idea what happened to it. If that is the case, I remember they had a lot of troubles getting high bandwidth past various transformers and other noisy gear that is common on AC lines. Good times.
office buildings can use the mains line to establish an in house LAN connection. i guess smart electricity meters could easily connect multiple buildings into one internet. the computers power supplies themselves are noisy gear, they can be easily spied on and data extracted from the mains lines. im sure many kind of power supplies have a means of exchanging data with other connected devices, especially when its manipulated power supplies manipulated by spies.
