Whose side am I on in this fight? I've been told females aren't capable of determining right from wrong in these complex situations. There must be a man hanging around here somewhere that can feed me the proper stance?
Seriously though, I am interested to hear opinions on the subject. I feel like the "Pro Democracy" title is forcing me to side with the protesters, but I'm sure the historical political and economic situation there is more complex than that.
From the perspective of the protesters, if the government can come in and snatch up your family, friends, neighbors on any charge it makes up. Those people simply disappear never to be heard from again, no trial, and you could be next. Is that life even worth living? The people living Hong Kong are have been told they are all about to be potential political prisoners and they have no idea what the charges or rules are. At least that's my understanding. If that is all true, then why would they not put up an intense fight? People have already been jumping off buildings as they realize the awful ramifications of what living in that reality will be like compared the current freedom they experience.
China is the world leader in wearing the boot stepping on the face of humanity. Any victory they win is a loss for the idea of freedom for humanity in the future.
That's what I'm trying to suss. Economic instability always benefits someone. Internal strife and keeping everyone in conflict seems to be popular as well. I can only speculate about their desired outcomes.
