They were only looking out for at risk jewish girls, not human beings in general.

JWA.org: Evidence was indeed mounting that some East European Jewish men were trafficking in girls and women, either deceiving or forcing young women into a life of sexual servitude. The charges infuriated the public already engaged in a crusade for moral reform and sexual purity. At the same time, a crusade against the sweatshop system of employing immigrant garment workers fueled further prejudice against Jews.
