Her braces did not look like that at all the way I remember it. It wasn't those fancy little metal rectangles on each teeth, it was more like a big apparatus, I'm tempted to say that it almost looked like what Shelly has on South Park, not that big but almost, it was awfully horrible and when she opened her mouth, the spectator would go "Yeeeewwww! I thought she was pretty but you know what, Jaws can have her, they will fit nicely together." and this was the whole joke.

Yes, and every element of the set up; the costume, the cuts, and the music, led to that payoff laugh. Very confusing indeed.
