The chemical they spray on the oil slicks to cause it to glob and sink is called Corexit, pronounced "corrects it". Which means "out of sight, out of mind". They don't care that the planet they themselves have to live on is being completely fucked. They made a joke out of it.
I don't get why after finding the cement block didn't work, they didn't try placing a pipe directly over the hole and just sucking the oil as it came out.
