In the movie The Matrix, Neo awakens and ends up flushed down in a sewer. This is the most precise depiction of someone who managed to wake up from bullshit and learn the truth. When you are in the know, you can no more enjoy almost anything. The more you know, the less you are able to be functional in society. I clearly remember enjoying life before learning the truth. The problem is that you have no choice. If you are unaware, you are risking your life everyday like unaware cattle.

I think you are putting words into their mouth. What can you really expect to accomplish before you get yourself in order?I will tell you a secret...YOU can't stop wars, neither can I. YOU don't get a say in who the president is or what AIPAC does. All you can do is better yourself and allow that to ripple outwards to those close by. We aren't global citizens or even members of a nation in reality, we are members of communities. Change what you can instead of using the things you can't change as an excuse to stagnate

Yours is reasonable and fine but incorrect in many ways. Communities are fluid in that members come and go. Variables enter and exit them on a regular basis. OP literally said you change the world by changing yourself. You're deescalating what parent said into something more reasonable and less Instagram/DailyMotivationals.com-ish.
