The ideas in Star Trek were great, but the whole idea was demented. We are supposed to believe that normal, intelligent people are single. We see the crew of Star Trek on a 5 years long voyage. Even if they were all single in the beginning of the voyage, which is still implausible, they still could have become engaged during the first year of their voyage. Think about it.
