Tesla's Elon Musk: We're 'Summoning the Demon' with Artificial Intelligence

I mean with artificial intelligence we are summoning the demon. Y'know those stories where there's the guy with the pentagram and the holy water, and he's like "yeah you're sure you can control a demon"? It doesn't work out.

Geordie Rose of Kindred AI presents Super-intelligent Aliens Are Coming to Earth

So the one thing I can tell you, is they're not going to be like us. So alien means you know different. These things that we're building are not going to be people. They might be really smart they might be really good at all sorts of different things, but they're not gonna be like us. They're gonna be aliens, and they're gonna be, I'm sorry to say, way smarter than every single person in this room in ways that we can't even comprehend.

So this of course triggers a lot of alarm. One of the guys who talks about this is Elon, who says things like this. like “when you do this beware, because you think just like the guy in the stories, that when you do this you're gonna put that that that little guy in a pentagram, and you're gonna have your holy water out and you're gonna wave it at the thing and by god it's gonna do exactly what you say and not one thing more but it never works out that way."

So this is an this is an attitude that some are having, this emerging alarmism about the way this is gonna go, but this these words ‘demons’, doesn't capture the essence of what's happening here.

I don't know if any of you are turn-of-the-century weird fiction fans, but there's this guy named HP Lovecraft, who's a very famous American weird fiction author, and he exposed a hue which is called cosmicism, and the essence of cosmicism is cosmic indifference. So he what he was saying is basically yes there are these massively intelligent entities out there, but they're not good, they're not evil, they just don't give a about you even in the slightest. The same way you don't care about an ant, is the same way they're not gonna care about you, and these things that were summoning into the world now are not demons, they're not evil, but they're more like the Lovecraftian great old ones.

They are entities that are not necessarily going to be aligned with what we want. So this transition is really really massively important for our entire species to navigate, and, going back to that thing that Sam Harris was saying, nobody is paying attention. This thing is happening in the background while people bicker about politics, and what what's gonna be in the health care plan in the US, and underneath it all is this rising tsunami, that if we're not careful is going to wipe us all out.

I lean towards Goys-R-Us's answer in that the topic itself is subject to mysticism because people can't see and touch electrons moving thru copper or silicon. The effect seems supernatural because there is little to relate to as a human because of the enormous number of computations that occurred because you slid a mouse pointer across a monitor screen. If one were lacking any physics or chemistry knowledge and began a computer tech education, one would know he was dealing with technology (science applied to human usable forms), but on a psychological level, one would comfortably ascribe the underpinning science as a type of magic: the effects of hidden or unknown forces. So developing a mythology to support that psychology is normal and expected.

However, I am a firm believer that mankind's assumptions that we posses all the necessary organs to sense the entirety of the cosmos is folly. There are things we can't know because we don't have the means to even perceive their existence, yet we might experience detectable data in the things we CAN perceive as they are affected by such objects and forces. These are the reasons why I'm interested in the topic, but I have yet to digest the linked info to see the data points it may add. I had a great conversation w/ OP instead ;-)

Scare tactics for the plebes. Otherwise known as mind control for the sheeple.

Oh absolutely. Anyone who's given AI any sort of thought over the span of their life beyond just more than "oh it vacuums dirt and cleans up cat shit for us" knows that it's not going to be a great idea. And like Elon said in the Joe Rogan podcast, no one is going to listen, because their heads will be so far up their own ass that they think it'll be okie dokie.

This is why it's SO important to practice spiritualism. It's what separates us from the machine.
