Can you print in polymer? Also how do you 3D print the barrel or the slide? I don't get how you can actually fire a bullet out of a 3D printed gun, unless you can now print in steel, which I doubt.

It's called sintering. Metal particles are hit with a laser. They bond. Final print is baked at high temp which solidifies the object.
3d printed metal guns are already a thing. Not sure of the safety, accuracy, or longevity.
