On a scale of one to "fuck this excuse", you, sir, are a winner. It isn't sufficient to say "just go make your own sub". That is precisely the excuse used on reddit that allowed things to get so damn bad to begin with. It was by pushing the idea that this was in any way a viable alternative to sane moderation practices that things managed to degenerate so far - because every shred of dissent was compartmentalised in it's own tiny box. This is how you make hiveminds. This is how you disguise total control of discourse as the freedom thereof. This is how you create a mindless community incapable of breaking itself out of its own blind alleys of thought, and me gusta, if you really, really want that, you can get all of it and more here.
We cannot afford to run our communities this way if we do not want to replicate reddit's every failure anew.
Let's say for instance you like sticks. Lots of twigs and fallen branches. Mother nature's beauty. You post every day about how glorious sticks are. Look, a post about how this lonely branch fell to earth today after a baby squirrel ran up a tree. It's a gift from the gods of wood I tell yah.
Now imagine people weren't so keen on sticks and really didn't like them as much as you do. You complain on the forum "Man they are censoring my sticks. It's those damn moderators I tell ya!". But really in reality... nobody cares about the lonely sticks. Most people just walk on them, break them, burn them (bad analogy).
You know some of us just don't care about the sticks like you. So it might be time to come to terms with that and start you own stick sub. Where all the people who do care about your sticks will gather and discuss sticks. It might be the best thing you ever do.
That is not comparable, and given how articulate you are, I think you know it. There's a difference between shitflooding a sub about, say video games, with hundreds upon hundreds of posts only concerning mario, and a moderator deleting something because they, personally do not like it.
