Assange didn't hack into anything himself, did he? Correct me if I'm wrong. I think he just worked with people who did. Which is exactly what the NY Times does. They build relationships with sources who steal information for them.
True. But in the case of the charge against Assange, it is alleged that he went a little bit too far with his encouragement for Manning to hack govt. property. That's why it's only a cybercrime charge, and not directly related to publishing the information.
Of course that's how it works. All I am suggesting is that at worst, Assange may be slapped on the wrist for a minor technicality related to a cybercrime offense.
You may be right, but I think the press is nervous. If they were treated the way everyone else is treated, they'd all be in prison. Whether that is just or not I can't say, but it isn't just that you and I would locked up for doing once what they do for a living.

When is the New York Times going to be charged with something?
VOALTRON ago
How? Assange isn't being charged with anything at all to do with news gathering, or publishing what was gathered.
He is only charged with a cybercrime. Conspiracy to hack govt. property.

Maybe that's how the NY Times gets it's news?

You think the MSM works any differently??
