Not at all. They want a lively public debate with hot tempers on all sides... but only for those pre-approved topics of discussion where the public can get their 2 minute hate in and burn off some frustration with no actual effect.
It's not often I say this but Chomsky was right:
“The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum....”
Right there with you. Chomsky is a rootless cosmopolitan, an ivory tower academic, a hand-wringing charicature of the hook-nosed, sneering Jew, but his book Manufacturing Consent is worth the read (if you haven't read it already). It really breaks down how legacy media controls the mind of the average man.
