What kind of agreement should a screenwriter be looking for then? Obviously some share of gross profits, but what's reasonable to ask for? Should one get an agent/manager and let them handle all of that?

as much as possible. if they fuckin wrote the story they should get like 50% of profits IMO. not realistic? Ok. It depends on how famous you are.
