@2fast4u92 they're working on regulating those now. a bill on it passed the senate last week. 80 lowers pretty much got cleaned off ebay or sold out at online store. a few of the lowers I was watching sold for $200+ when normal price is $50 to $150.
those are something to grab now then buy the parts slowly even if you dont build.
I have a couple, one for a 7mm08 AR10 build and one for a 7.62x39 AR15 build. They are still pretty cheap around me but I may grab a few more just for good measure.
I'm sure there are prints that show what needs to be done and probably videos that show the process and best order to do it.
Start out with smaller projects and read a book about basic machining. I'm. No pro either but I'm confident I could figure it out. I've only done a little bit of work on a lathe and mill.
Got to realize that if you don't have the proper machining equipment (vertical mill instead of a drill press) and you're not experienced,it won't be as pretty as a purchased lower. But you're aiming for functionality. You could always try again and make a couple.
But I'd suggest looking up some beginner projects to get the feel for machining steel or aluminum. The hardest part for you since you're a beginner will be milling, but since you have a drill press you probably won't be able to mill and will probably have to get creative with pecking holes to remove material. Then clean it up on a belt sander and with a file.
Thanks for the great post. Yeah I would have to take a lot of time and learn it. I think I would need more tools than I have to really do it and If Im going to do it I might as well do it right. Thanks for your reply though. A project for next winter maybe when I get my shop set up.

Machine from scratch then. Not that hard.

How hard is this for someone who has never done that shit before? We are not talking drill press and some hand files I am guessing.
