Interesting. I am for certain vaccines for certain easily communicable diseases that have high mortality rates (polio for example), but this one has always concerned me.
In 1950's in one year polio killed 3,000 and probably permanently crippled another 3,000 if not more. 6,000 kids out of 58,000 either died or had life long crippling injuries. In one year. So that's about 1 in 10 either died or were crippled for life. Pretty high rate.
in new york alone in 1916 26,000 kids got infected. 6,000 died probably another 6,000 crippled for life. In one city... So in that outbreak about HALF of all infected either died or had life long injuries from it. That's is a nightmarish rate of mortality/permanent impairment.

It does not have a high mortality rate. The medical definition of polio changed when the vaccine came out.
